Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage
Manual Lymphatic Drainage massage is a gentle, specialised treatment using light, rhythmical and precise movements to support the natural movement of lymphatic fluid through the body.
Unlike traditional massage, MLD does not use deep pressure. The techniques work gently with the superficial lymphatic system and can be particularly helpful when the body is feeling heavy, puffy or affected by mild fluid retention.
The slow, repetitive nature of lymphatic drainage massage also makes it a deeply calming treatment. It can be a good choice during periods of fatigue, stress or reduced activity, or simply when you’re looking for a gentler approach that supports relaxation and overall wellbeing.
MLD may also be considered at certain stages of recovery or alongside particular health circumstances, but suitability is important. If you have an existing medical condition, unexplained swelling or are recovering from surgery, please get in touch before booking so we can establish whether treatment is appropriate.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage may help with:
Mild fluid retention and puffiness
Heavy or tired-feeling legs
Feelings of heaviness associated with prolonged sitting or travel
General relaxation and physical fatigue
Mild facial puffiness
Supporting comfortable fluid movement
Relaxation during periods of stress or increased physical demand
General wellbeing when a gentler treatment approach is preferred
Is MLD right for me?
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is not suitable for everyone, and certain medical conditions require medical clearance before treatment can take place.
MLD at Sensara is not intended to treat diagnosed lymphoedema or lipoedema, which require appropriately specialised assessment and management.
It is also not offered during the early stages of post-surgical recovery. If you are considering MLD following surgery, treatment should only take place at an appropriate stage of recovery and once you have been medically cleared.
Unexplained or sudden swelling should always be medically assessed rather than treated with massage.
If you have a medical condition, are taking medication that may be relevant to treatment, have recently undergone surgery, or are simply unsure whether MLD is appropriate for you, please get in touch before booking.
Treatment Plans
For the best results, Manual Lymphatic Drainage is often recommended as a short course of treatments rather than a one-off session, particularly where there is ongoing fluid retention, puffiness or a recurring feeling of heaviness.
A course of 3–5 treatments is commonly recommended, with the frequency adapted to your individual needs and how your body responds.
Package options are available if you’d like to book a series of treatments.
Please note: appointment time includes consultation, hands-on treatment, remedial/exercise advice where relevant, changing time, and payment.
